Reactions to the story - Children from Senegal

Naima, France Marcin, Poland Abigail, Switzerland

Message written by the children of the street library in the neighborhood of Xhelcom in Dakar, Sénégal:

"We liked the story of Ono and Rene a lot. The story is important because it’s the story of solidarity and getting to know the other.

But the story is sad because Ono has to work at a young age. Ono doesn’t go to school, he’s been left out (or abandoned). The story doesn’t talk about his father, but it talks about his mother and his little sister.

The children from Ono’s neighborhood should help him because Ono helps his mother. Ono hurries to go home when he’s bringing something to his family.

We’re happy to have listened to the story of Ono and Rene, mostly because they get together to clean the neighborhood fountains. This is an act of solidarity. Here in Dakar, this kind of work is called "Set setal."

We liked it when Rene visited Ono’s house even though Ono lives far away. Rene went there even though he had to walk through the mud. That shows friendship and courage. Ono shared the little he had with his friend."
