Say NO to poverty
Messages for October 17

We’d like to share a few kids’ messages we received on the World Day to Overcome Extreme Poverty.

"For October 17 we sang "Donner du coeur au monde" (Give the World your Heart) with kids from all the schools in St. Claude. There were little kids from preschool up to the oldest children in the elementary schools. We got together in the city’s gardens to sing. It was beautiful and at the end we gave each other hearts made of paper or cardboard that we’d made in class. Every year we get together with more and more people. We’re hapy because that means that adults want to help us to grow up in a world with more solidarity." Children from schools in St. Claude, Guadeloupe

"I’m from Central Africa and I’d like to ask all children to help me to become a famous artist to speak with the whole world through images. I’d like to ask all parents to pay their children’s school fees. School helps kids grow up. Children, you should go to school each day and study hard. You need to be able to read to understand and fight poverty. I’m waiting for a reply from my artist friend at Tapori." Défont-John, 15 years old, Central African Republic

"My name is Godwin. A world where all children have a ball and tennis shoes would be beautiful ! A world where children write to each other to get to know each other and share their happiness ! " Godwin, 13 years old, Togo

"I’m a teenager in the group Tapori Light from Kadutu. I wish you a beautiful October 17. I’ve done a lot to get ready for this day. Thanks to Tapori I get to hear from my friends all around the world. I’m going to keep changing the world like Julien, from Haiti." Trésor , Democratic Republic of Congo

"At school we made a banner and we hung our hearts on it in the recess yard. Then we sent them to Paris for the World Day to Overcome Extreme Poverty." Céline, 10 years old, France

"I don’t agree with those who say we can’t fight against poverty. To fight against this curse, we need most of all to come together in our community and get together with the authorities, parents, students, etc. " Ahmed, 22 years old, Egypt

"I wish all Tapori child joy and happiness. I hope they’ll always stay united like brothers and sisters. If we share difficult moments, everything will become easier. Everyone will respect others and everyone will be equal, with no differences. " Fella, 20 years old, Algeria

"Thank you children, for what you do to fight poverty and bring friendship between different peoples. We adults, we’re often too caught up in life and sometimes we forget fundamental ideas...Through your actions you revive the fire in the hearts of the adults you meet" Anne-Marie, adult, France

"Poverty isn’t right because children don’t have the chance to go to school and are forced to work. They don’t have a roof over their heads and or enough to eat." Guillaume, 11 years old, France
