On October 17, 1987, a commemorative stone in honor of the victims of poverty was placed at the Plaza of Human Rights and Liberties in Paris.*
* That’s where the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was signed in 1948.
This stone reads:
"Wherever men and women are condemned to live in extreme poverty, human rights are violated. To come together to ensure that these rights be respected is our solemn duty."
