| The history of October 17 |
October 17 is the World Day to Overcome Poverty.
In 1987, families living in poverty and their friends got together in a big plaza in Paris. Joseph Wresinski (who started ATD Fourth World Movement and Tapori) placed a commemorative stone to honor victims of poverty.
In 1992, the United Nations recognized this day as the World Day to Overcome Poverty.
Every year on this day, children and adults around the world get together to say no to poverty.
